Field track students in the Media Design Practices (MDP) program at Art Center College of Design work in a real-world context where social issues, media infrastructure, and communication technology intersect.

2016-17 Field Context:
UNICEF's Innovation Lab in
Mexico City, Mexico

The Field Context is at the heart of the Field track curriculum. Each year's context is defined by a community, a partner institution, and a communication issue.

Students divide their time between projects in their studio at Art Center, their studio in the field (they travel wherever the context might be), participation in a community, and managing the world of NGOs and non-profits. Field track partnerships are run in collaboration with Designmatters, Art Center's social impact initiative.

Individual and/or group thesis projects may continue the work students developed as part of the Field Context or take on a new issue or context.
