Plannar is a shared AR approach to community visioning that privileges the perspectives of long-term, low-income immigrant residents of Chinatown in Los Angeles. Residents can create photos of their own preferred visions of future urban development by placing and liking virtual object overlays around the neighborhood. In tandem with everyday life and traditional community outreach strategies, this community-led platform engages residents with interactive simulations from multiple perspectives, over time, and with others..
Jessy Escobedo is an interdisciplinary design strategist based in Los Angeles, CA. Her work combines spatial computing, mobile interfaces, and social fiction to create accessible and engaging media that expresses alternative narratives to urban futures from citizens’ points of view. She is a MFA candidate in ArtCenter College of Design’s Media Design Practices department and holds a B.S. in Architectural Studies from the University of Southern California.
